Clean Up & Recycle

The logistics involved in the Force 5 site clean-up process have been designed to cause minimal disruption to construction and make the site more efficient and manageable.

Force 5 becomes involved at the very beginning by staking out two specific areas on site for construction waste. An area is identified for bricks and tiles and another for timber off-cuts and plasterboard.

General windblown waste such as packaging and food waste is consigned to a 1.5 cubic metre bag contained in a steel frame.  The bags are emptied by the Force 5 crew and the contents are recycled.

At the first stage the grinder crushes bricks and tiles to be used as pathways for construction vehicles to access the site.  These pathways substantially reduce soil dispersion onto roads and into waterways. This can also double as aggregate foundation for the final driveway construction.

At lock-up stage timber and plasterboard “carpet” mulch can be laid around the base of the house to reduce the potential of workers slipping over in wet conditions.  This helps controls erosion and provides the added benefit of fertilising the soil as the main component of plasterboard is gypsum that contains nutrients such as calcium.  Alternatively this mulch can be left for landscapers to spread through garden beds.

Before "hand-over" Force 5 ensures that all material is recycled and sites are devoid of all waste.

Building sites will literally take on a new appearance.  They will become more neat and tidy and not the unsightly mess as they are often found. Another advantage of the process is that building workers have on-site dedicated waste locations where timber off-cuts or broken tiles and bricks are supposed to be. Overall this leaves the site more orderly and reduces the chances of workers being injured.
